CHAIRMAN’S REMARKS ON THE OCCASION OF THE SIGNING OF AN MOU BETWEEN CS INSTITUTIONS-28TH OCTOBER 2021

It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the RCPSB offices this morning as we mark an important and opportune milestone in the journey of cooperation and collaboration among CS institutions. This is an auspicious day in which key CS profession stakeholders will be signing an MOU cementing their commitment and determination to realise a longstanding dream and aspirations to elevate the CS profession to a globally recognized world class profession at the forefront of Governance.

The MOU encapsulates key programs, milestones and activities designed to secure this vision, anchored on growing the capacity and capabilities of CS professionals as well as creating opportunities’ and an environment in which the CS professional can practice his/her craft and make a positive impact on the lives of the Kenyan people. Such a goal will require commitment to the proper governance and ethical management of our institutions which is crucial to attaining the Nation’s vision to be a prosperous middle income country in the medium term.

While major milestones have been achieved by individual CS institutions operating on their own, it was always the conviction of the founders of the profession in Kenya that the aspirations of the CS profession could be secured and more fully entrenched through collaborative initiatives among the CS institutions.

The gains from earlier initiatives at collaboration have been modest and as a result the current leadership of the CS institutions changed tack and have for the past several months been working on more ambitious efforts that have now culminated in the MOU we are about to sign today.

The MOU incorporates several collaborative initiatives for implementation to secure the two pillars of enhanced capabilities and capacity of the CS professionals, as well as creating sustainable demand for CS professional services and opportunities for members of ICS as follows:

  • Entrenching ownership of the vision, goals, programs and initiatives of the MOU among the leadership, management and staff of the CS institutions as well as the wider membership of ICS;
  • Revamped joint implementation structures, including the Chairs and CEO’s forum, Inter-institutional Implementation Committee, CS institutions Council and Boards forum, and the annual members’ forum;
  • Programs, initiatives and other measures to enhance the competence and capabilities of CS professionals;
  • Lobbying, advocacy, Initiatives and collaboration with stakeholders to identify and expand opportunities for CS professionals;
  • Expansion and growth in numbers of CS professionals to create the scope for sustainable impact by CS professionals;
  • An improved legal and regulatory environment for provision of governance and corporate secretarial services;
  • Joint planning, joint marketing, joint research, joint communication and joint advocacy;
  • A world class syllabus for CS professional training, regularly updated;
  • Strengthening of Cs institutions capacity, capabilities and resources;
  • Enhanced research capabilities and high quality publications;
  • Support for CS students and the CS Students Association and;
  • Greater involvement of the Fellows of the institute and their contributions

Accordingly, this is a day in which we take pride in the progress made by the CS institutions towards realizing the dreams and aspirations of the founders of the profession. Its also a day in which we rededicate and renew our commitment to proceeding aggressively to implement the plans, programs and activities that will secure those goals.

Allow me to thank all those who have played a key role in making this day possible, including my colleague chairs and CEO’s of the CS institutions; the Task Force led by Patrick Mulwa that was instrumental in preparing and refining the MOU; and the Council of ICS and the boards of kasneb and RCPSB for putting their full weight behind this initiative. We also salute all the members of staff of all these institutions who played various critical and supportive roles behind the scenes.

To you all, I say ASANTE SANA.
